The NOW: Materiality and In the House 4 Opening Reception
April 24 at 6pm to 8pm, join us at Pen + Brush to celebrate the opening of our spring exhibitions, The NOW: Materiality and In the House 4. The Now: Materiality is the fifth iteration of our NOW exhibitions—an ongoing series spotlighting artists who are shaping the visual and conceptual language of our time. These artists are the ones to watch—whose work pulses with urgency, insight, and consideration.
The NOW: Materiality brings together three artists: Anindita Dutta, Iliana Emilia Garcia, Alida Wilkinson who are working through materials—treating the contents of form, medium, and process as sites of inquiry, voice, story, resistance, and return. Here, materials are not passive tools but active collaborators in the process of making. The simplicity of clay, the human body, and the readymade chair—each elemental in form and also, deeply familiar—offers a universal language. Stripped of excess, these materials and symbols carry weight beyond their surface, inviting reflection on memory, presence, and transformation. In these hands, the ordinary becomes profound—an offering of depth, grace, and clarity through their works.
On view in our lower gallery, Pen + Brush proudly presents In the House 4, an ongoing exhibition series that showcases a selection of works by artists on our roster, each offering unique artistic perspectives and creative expression. Featuring artists Hannah Layden, Alex Romero, and Gale Rothstein.
In the House 4 is not confined to a single theme. Instead, it embodies a shared concept: each work is on our radar and deemed worthy of consideration. The reasons for featuring each artist are distinct, but they all contribute significantly to the dialogue Pen + Brush aims to foster with the public. The exhibition invites colleagues, visitors, collectors, press, and artists to engage in constructive dialogue and to think out loud together.
