OUR HISTORY
Founded over 113 years ago, The Pen and Brush, Inc. is an international
membership organization for women in the visual, literary and performing arts and supporting public members. Based
in a historic townhouse in New York's Greenwich
Village, Pen and Brush is a vibrant resource for its members, nonmember participants,
and a flourishing cultural center for the surrounding community.
OUR GOALS
Address the inequality of opportunities available to women
seeking careers in the arts by providing a dedicated facility
for the presentation of their work.
Represent consistently high standards of professionalism in
the presentation of art created by women.
Encourage and support young and emerging women artists through
scholarships and mentoring.
Provide public access to the work of women artists in a setting
that encourages exposure to the variety of art forms.
TO ACHIEVE THESE OBJECTIVES
Pen and Brush hosts over 70 events
per year, including art exhibits, music and theater performances,
writers' workshops and educational events. Most of these events
are open to the general public, while some are designed specifically
to benefit our membership.
Pen and Brush is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit
